Production
Are you looking for milk that has the same pride taken during production as you take in enjoying it? Enjoy a trip through our production hall at Trickling Springs Creamery. Here is where the Best chocolate milk, Organic and Natural Milk, Cream products, Butter & Ice cream are made!
After we receive the milk from our local family farms we pasteurize the milk using a HTST (High Temp Short Time) pasteurizer.
A
lthough called a High Temp pasteurizer we will often refer to our pasteurization as “low-temp” pasteurization. This is because the milk is heated up to 160 – 165 degrees Fahrenheit, this is approximately 114º less than the temperature most conventional milk is heated to. They “cook” theirs to achieve a long shelf life (60+ days) so they can ship across the country (and into other countries). Trickling Springs Creamery’s goal is to bring you the freshest, healthiest & best tasting milk available; to do this we use a lower temperature pasteurization which kills the bacteria but allows most of the proteins, natural enzyme structure and nutrients to remain alive and whole!
Using this method we only have a 14 to 21 day shelf life (the milk is marked with a 14 day sell by date) but this ensures you will be always getting fresh milk. Plus, this is an indicator of milk that is still alive as raw milk will last approximately the same amount of time if it is kept cold. So try some of our fresh, cold milk today!
This is the next stop the milk will make if you don’t want the rich, nutrient dense whole milk. Our Cream separator! We still use the old technology of spinning the milk and allowing the lighter cream to spin off of the top separating the milk fat (cream) from the skim milk!
When the milk comes to the homogenizer the milk fat (think cream) is broken into small particles to force the cream to remain suspended in the milk. If the milk does not go through this process we get what we refer to as CreamLine Milk (non-homogenized).
Homogenization will make the milk much easier to handle once you are ready to drink it or pour it on your fresh fruit, granola or cereals.
However if you prefer your milk to be as close to raw as possible then go with our CreamLine Milk, this is one less process the milk doesn’t need to go through. If you get the CreamLine milk be sure to shake it well before you drink or pour to mix the cream back into your milk.
From this point the milk is stored in our large storage tanks until the milk is ready to be bottled or turned in one of our other products: butter or ice cream.
This is our butter churn, for more information on how we make our butter please go to our homemade butter page.
The glass bottling process starts with the Glass Bottle Washer:
Here your bottles a washed in hot water and then sent through a sanitizing rinse; this ensures that the product you get comes in a clean sanitary glass bottle. Did you know one of Trickling Springs glass bottles will save approximately FORTY plastic containers from the landfill! Do your part in reducing our waste and buy glass today! pssst… “we think it tastes better in glass too”
From the bottle washer the bottles cross a covered track to our glass bottle filler.
For your convenience we also bottle our milk in plastic containers for your convenience. Please recycle!
Our Plastic filler can handle a lot of bottles an hour when running at full capacity.
We take the utmost care to keep your milk fresh and cold! As soon as the milk is bottled we take it to our cooler. From there the milk is loaded onto trucks and delivered early the next morning to your local retail store ready for you to take home and enjoy!
Please drink responsibly and lots of it!
